Men In Sheds

June 2026-

Downend Men in Sheds is a community based project dedicated to reducing social isolation, promoting mental well-being, and supporting local craftsmanship. We are part of a global charitable organisation. Our workshop provides a safe, inclusive space where people of all ages can come together to engage in hands-on activities such as woodworking, DIY projects, and community projects.

We operate within the Downend community, serving a diverse group of individuals ranging from retired professionals to younger men experiencing life transitions.

Through shared experiences and practical projects, we help our members develop valuable skills, foster new friendships, and improve their overall quality of life.

What We Do:

-Tackling Social Isolation: Our workshop is a hub where men gather to engage in meaningful, often intergenerational, activities that reduce loneliness and promote well-being. We provide a safe, non-judgmental environment where members can connect, share stories, and help each other.

-Community Impact: We have completed numerous community projects, including the construction of planters and park benches for local schools, parks, and memorial sites. These projects not only beautify our area but also provide our members with a sense of pride and purpose.

-Promoting Mental Health: Many of our members are retired or facing challenging life circumstances. The Shed provides a vital outlet for creativity, physical activity, and social interaction, all of which contribute to improved mental health and reduced feelings of isolation.

We are based in a bespoke workshop just over the A4174 off Cuckoo Lane. Very easy to get to if you’re thinking of joining us. In terms of joining, we are happy for you to spend two or three sessions with us to see if what we do might meet your needs. If you decide to join, in order to meet our rental costs, there is a charge of approximately £5.50 per week (coffee/tea is on tap at the Unit!)

Our sessions currently are on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (09.00-12.30). However, it is highly likely that we will be extending our opening times in the near future. Please note, you do not have to have any woodworking skills in order to join.

We are happy to train you up!
